To thoroughly implement the "Pioneer Plan", comprehensively enhance the level of the university’s light industry disciplines, and promote international exchanges, from October 17 to 19, 2024, Wang Min, Member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Vice President of Tianjin University of Science and Technology (TUST), led a delegation of more than 30 people, including Professor Cheng Bowen and Liu Hongbin (Dean of the College of Light Industry Science and Engineering), to Jinan to attend the 2024 International Symposium on Biorefining, Papermaking, and Lignocellulosic Materials (ISBPLM 2024).

This symposium was co-hosted by Qilu University of Technology (QLUT), South China University of Technology (SCUT), Guangxi University (GXU), Shaanxi University of Science and Technology (SUST), Tianjin University of Science and Technology (TUST), Nanjing Forestry University (NFU), and Hubei University of Technology (HBUT), and co-organized by the Shandong Technical Association of Paper Industry. The 2024 Young Scholars’ Conference on Biomass Processing and Utilization (YCBPU 2024) was held concurrently.
Wang Min attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech as a representative of the co-hosting institutions. She introduced the university’s development in the fields of biomass chemistry and materials, advanced fibers and paper-based functional materials, and pointed out that the holding of this symposium would promote the research and industrialization of biorefining, papermaking, and cellulose materials, and contribute wisdom and strength to serving the development of new-quality productive forces and supporting national strategies and regional economic development.
During the symposium, many experts and scholars, including Academician Shi Bi, Academician Wang Shuangfei, Academician Xiao Huining, Academician Zhao Ruhe, and Professor Chen Jiachuan, delivered keynote reports focusing on topics such as the cultivation of talents in light industry, the independent development of papermaking equipment, the directional modification of cellulose, thermal insulation materials, green and biological papermaking, and polymer and biological processing. A total of nearly 160 reports of various types were given at the symposium, and 134 posters were displayed.

During the symposium, teachers and students of our university actively participated in academic exchanges, conducted in-depth and sufficient discussions with the reporters, creating a lively atmosphere, and fully demonstrated the university’s scientific research achievements in the fields of biorefining, papermaking, and lignocellulosic materials. Invited by the organizing committee, Liu Hongbin (Dean of the College of Light Industry Science and Engineering), Professor Si Chuanling, Professor Liu Wei, Professor Dai Lin, and Associate Professor Xu Ting from our university delivered invited reports. Young teachers such as Liu Rongrong and Zhu Liyu gave oral reports. More than 20 graduate students of our university participated in the 2024 Young Scholars’ Conference on Biomass Processing and Utilization (YCBPU 2024) and displayed their research achievements in the form of posters, and many students’ achievements were awarded "Excellent Posters".
This symposium not only demonstrated Tianjin University of Science and Technology’s scientific research achievements in the fields of pulp and papermaking, biorefining, and lignocellulosic materials, but also provided an important opportunity to promote inter-university and international scientific and technological cooperation as well as industry-university-research cooperation, indicating that the innovative development of the light industry will be more vigorous in the future.
